 | Sydney Schools To Inherit Local Man's Estate - Honolulu Star-Bulletin - 14 Mar 1953 - Page 3 "The NSW Masonic Schools in Sydney, Australia, through the Edith Boyd Memorial Trust Fund will inherit the bulk of the estate of Joseph Thompson Boyd, late Honolulu resident. The Territorial Supreme Court so ruled in a decision filed late yesterday afternoon. Mr. Boyd left assets here valued at about $140,000 ... The Supreme Court upheld a ruling by former Circuit Judge Willson C. Moore that it was Mr. Boyd's intention as disclosed in a series of letters he wrote to officials of the Masonic Schools, to leave most of his estate to the trust fund. The contribution is designated as a memorial to Edith Boyd, Mr. Boyd's wife who died at sea while the couple were en route to Australia for a visit in 1941. A provision in Mr. Boyd's will setting up the trust fund was contested by three of his first cousins living in Lawton [Lawson?], NSW. Their contention that Mr. Boyd did not create a charitable trust cannot be upheld, the Supreme Court ruled." Newspapers.com image 269301538.

We went to the top of the Pali and I even remember a trip on a glass bottom boat in Kaneohe Bay! We were sent home to the States in 1938 because of rumblings of war with Japan. My father, then a major in the Signal Corps, was sent to Chicago to work with Automatic Electric to buy equipment for the Army."

 | The Oak Tree Where Samuel Crumpler Was Gored to Death By A Bull The initials "SC" with a coffin underneath, and below that the date "1849" still visible, carved in the oak tree where Samuel Crumpler died. The tree stands in Underdaykers at Lytchett Matravers, the dialectal word for Hundred Acres, which loosely describes the size of that field.
According to Beau Parke, "On a historical note, Samuel Crumpler - then aged 55 - was gored to death against a tree at Underdaykers in 1849, by his own bull. A hole was later bored into the tree by someone, about three feet up, and the sap ran out of the hole over a period of time, creating a black stain down the bark. We youngsters used to believe that the hole was where the bull had actually gored his victim, and that the sap was his blood. The tree is known as 'Bull Oak', with a suitable inscription thereon."
A part of Beau Parke's poem Underdaykers (1935):
"Then next we found the ancient tree where Farmer Crumpler died
when charged by his ferocious bull, and no one heard his cries,
It pinned his master to the trunk! - and we, with bated breath,
imagined that sheer terror as it gored him then to death."
