Lucies (“we”, “us”) runs the family history site at lordoflucies.com. We try to collect as little about you as possible. This page explains what we do collect, why, and the choices you have.

Living people in the tree

This is a genealogy site, so most of what it holds is information about people rather than about visitors. People recorded as living are hidden from visitors by default — their details are not shown, and their names may appear only as “Living”. Detail about a living person is shown only where that person has agreed to it.

If you are recorded here and would rather not be, or a detail about you is wrong, write to us at the address below and we will correct or remove it. You do not have to explain why.

What we collect about visitors

You can browse the public parts of the site without an account. If you register for one, we store the username, email address and password you choose; the password is stored only as a one-way hash and we cannot read it. If you send a correction, a suggestion, or a message through the contact form, we keep what you write so that we can act on it and reply.

The site keeps a short rolling log of recent page views, which includes the visitor's IP address. It holds only the most recent few hundred entries and older ones drop off automatically. It exists to spot abuse, not to build a picture of you.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone except as described on this page.

Cookies

The site itself uses only the cookies it needs in order to work — to keep you logged in, to remember your chosen language, and to hold your place as you move around the tree. Our advertising partners, described below, may set their own cookies.

We show advertisements through Google AdSense to help cover the cost of running the site.

This is a general-audience family history site and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

If you would like to know what we hold about you, or would like it corrected or deleted, write to us at the address below and we will deal with it.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date above will change when we do.
