1920 United States Census - 1261 Center Street, Honolulu, Hawaii

The 1920 U.S. Census shows: Lily Wilkinson, head of household, owner of property, 43 years old, a widow, arrived in the U.S. in 1892, an alien, born in Switzerland, mother language French [seems doubtful, since she was from German Switzerland]. Lily is living with her sons Albert, age 23, a collector in a Bank; James, age 21, a machinist at the Iron Works; and Charles, age 14. All are shown to be "octaroons," which means "an offspring of a quadroon and a white parent; a person who is one-eighth black." Virtually everyone on this census sheet is shown to be an "octaroon," which is impossible.

Year: 1920; Census Place: Honolulu, Honolulu, Hawaii Territory; Roll: T625_2035; Page: 20B; Enumeration District: 18; Image: 639.
