Rachel Morris King - Crypt I was born and grew up in Hawaii. Whenever we visited San Francisco, my grandmother would always want to go and visit the grave of her mother (Rachel Morris King). As kids we never wanted to do this, and never went to the grave: kids don't like visiting graves. My grandmother would lament that once she'd died, nobody would remember where her mother, Rachel, was buried.
But my grandmother did not foresee the internet, and how it helps us to research everything -- including our ancestry. I became interested in genealogy simply because I wanted to find Rachel's grave.
I found it, and my wife and I visited it for the first time today. We brought red carnations. |

John J. Walsh - Niche at Punchbowl, Honolulu, Hawaii When we arranged our father's funeral at Punchbowl, they asked us what he'd like on his brass plaque. We thought about his favourite expression, "Oh Boy Oh Boy Oh Boy." We thought the cemetery officials would say no, but they couldn't have been more gracious. His niche is Section CT4-Q,row 200, site 201. |

Location of Alice [Bushby] Raby's Grave Sue Keller kindly took this photograph at Oakwood Hill Cemetery in April 2009. She e-mailed, "I located 75% of the graves listed on the spreadsheet for Block 9 at Oakwood. There is a marker for J.A. Walter, but only empty grass on both sides of him. Alice has no marker. There was one old marker that was impossible to read. It appeared to say "Baby" across the top, but it was worn and could possibly be Raby. I cannot read the lettering by sight. I could do a rubbing on a dry day and see if there is a chance that it is her's. Typically the surname is the large word across the top of a stone, so it left me wondering. Most of the graves in that area are 1918 flu epidemic graves and so most are from 1918-1919." |
