Biography |
Wilfred "Wift" Bushby was born in England in 1876 and emigrated to Australia as a four year old with his siblings and parents Martha and James.
Wift was a blacksmith and his brother George "Jordie" Bushby was a carpenter. As young men, they traveled to Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, to find their fortune mining in the gold rush. They lived in tents in Kalgoorlie. Jordie had a loyal dog that scared off an aboriginal gentleman in his tent who was holding a nulla nulla over him while he slept.
At age 40 (1915) Wift enlisted in the 10th Light Horse Regiment, 18th Reinforcement. He served in Egypt, and return to Western Australia on 17 Jul 1919.
Wift returned to the gold mines after the war.
It is thought Wift never had any children and died alone in Leonora District Hospital, Western Australia, on 30 Aug 1948 aged 72. |
