The family is saddened to announce her unexpected passing on April 28, 2006 at age 83.
Margery was a native San Franciscan and lived her entire life in the city; she loved spending the last 58 years in the same beautiful home. She married her beloved Monroe Morris in 1942 and had 36 wonderful years with him until his passing in 1978.
Later in life she married the late Eugene Fox who shared the family's admiration for this great lady.
Margery was a graduate of Commerce High School, always a brilliant student and a favorite of her teachers. She took great joy in study and learning, but particularly loved English literature and Greek mythology. She was an accomplished pianist throughout her life.
During World War II, at the age of 19, she married Monroe who was a Navy Chief Petty Officer. She opened the Victory Tax Service and prepared tax returns for servicemen.
After the war she and Monroe started their family and had three devoted children. She opened the Margery Morris Tax Service in 1954 and operated it continuously for more than fifty years, including this last tax season.
Because of the Depression and war she was unable to attend college in her youth. She began college and obtained her college degree from SF State College in 1978 at age 55. Her love of learning never stopped and she read thousands of books on almost every imaginable subject. Her interest in literature and culture ranged from Shakespeare to Star Trek.
She was well known in the bridge world, achieving Life Master status, playing in tournaments and studying the game up to the end of her life.
She was preceded in death by her sister Mercedes DiMilo; and is survived by her son Michael Morris of Portland, OR; her daughters Diane Milber and Lorelei Coleman of San Francisco; her brother Philip Singer of Moraga; grandchildren, Daniel Morris, Jennifer Coleman, Eli Morris, Jeffrey Milber and James Milber; and the children of her brother and sister, Mitchell Mehdy, Lisa Singer and Julianne Singer. She will be remembered lovingly for her devotion to her family, and her intelligence, amazing wit and kindness.
Private internment to be at Salem Memorial Park in Colma. |
