  The Charles Family - 1939 Register The 1939 Register, taken on 29 September 1939, provides a snapshot of the civilian population of England and Wales just after the outbreak of the Second World War. Details of around 40 million people were recorded in in more than 65,000 volumes (transcript books). The Register shows the Charles Household living at "Hogarth," Dean Lane, Winchester. Walter A Charles, DOB 11 SEP 1886, married, is a Foreman Tailor - Military Cutter. Lilian K Charles, DOB 21 FEB 1890, his wife, has "unpaid domestic duties." Marjorie D Wilson, their daughter, DOB 9 OCT 1922, single, is a Municipal Clerk. The Register appears to have been amended later to show her married name, Wilson. Stanley G Charles, their son, DOB 4 DEC 1915, single, is a Centre & Herbert Lathe Worker.
