- The founder of the Swiss line and the "F. U." of F. U. Bally Soehne.
Of Uebersaxen near Feldkirch, Vorarlberg; the family had come from Bludenz via
Tschagguns and were reduced to poverty there. Described as the last male
descendant of the direct stem line. Came to Switzerland in the spring of 1778
to look for summer work as a mason, and found it building Rudolf Meyer's ribbon
factory at Aarau. Meyer persuaded him to stay and to sell ribbons from village
to village. He built house No. 59 in Schoenenwerd.
When Eduard Bally visited Satteins and Tschagguns in 1913-14 he found the
ancestral name written Bale, Paale and Bahl - never Balli.
