  Notes	Recorded at baptism as "Urs Peter bali" - "den 10 Hornig in zweilig 1783", Hornig being February, in the family's handwritten record. Trained by Johann Rudolf Meyer of Aarau. Ran the business autocratically; in his day virtually the whole industry at Schoenenwerd was home work. The Ballys were Hintersaessen at Schoenenwerd - resident non-citizens, burghers of Rohr - until Peter was finally admitted a Buerger of Schoenenwerd on 18 Jan 1834. In 1807, marrying a Herzog was marrying up. His brother Niklaus also loved Marie Herzog, lost her to Peter, and the peaceful relationship of the two brothers was broken. Niklaus then courted her sister Kathrina, but a throat ailment made marriage impossible; he left the firm and died in 1833. Kathrina married Colonel Alois Wyser instead.
