Founder of the Bally shoe house and author of the memoirs from which all four of
these charts are taken. First cousin of Otto, Alfred and Bruno Wyser through the
Herzog sisters.
His annal for 1862 contains the entry "14. November: Bruno Wyser verreiste nach
Montevideo" (memoirs p. 153) - the line that fixed Bruno Wyser's departure.
In June 1863 his elastics director Otto Wyser proposed working through the feast
of SS Peter and Paul; Pastor Schumacher came to the Ferggstube and threatened to
preach against it, then returned with two more priests. In Feb 1864 Carl Franz's
uncle Aloys Wyser wrote him the warning letter glued into the manuscript between
folios I.170 and I.171.
In Sept 1870, ill and taking iron water at forty-nine, he resolved within three
days of Ernst Quincke's "war of life and death" letter to found his own house at
Montevideo. Chapalay and Schnurrenberger landed there on 7 Nov 1870.

John Crumpler died Feb. 23, 1830 and his death is listed in the Fayetteville Observer. Margaret Gurley was from Wayne County and is identified in a Wayne County Deed. There is no mistake about who she is. Deed book 12 page 368 has information about John Crumpler. This is a Sampson County deed. There is quite a bit of information about this John Crumpler in the deed books, all of it can not be understood. He apparently went broke about 1828 and lost some property. It appears that one of his friends bought it back and gave it to him.
John Crumpler Sr. married Sarah Holmes....I did not know that and I agree that it is correct. I have reviewed some family names.

General Stark lived to his 94th year and died 8 May 1822, reportedly the last surviving Continental general of the Revolution.
"Thus living, not for himself alone, but for his country, the veteran Stark passed into the wane of life, ever taking, as long as life lasted, a lively interest in every incident in our country's history. At length, suffering from the effects of a paralytic shock at the extreme age of 93 years, 8 months and 22 days, the old hero departed this life on Wednesday, the 8 May, 1822.
"The Friday following his death, his remains were interred with military honors, in a cemetery he had enclosed upon his own farm, a large concourse of people being in attendance, to witness the imposing ceremony, and to pay their last respects over the body of the man who had contributed so largely in filling 'the measure of his country's glory.'
"The cemetery is situated upon a commanding bluff upon the east bank of the Merrimack, and over his remains his family have placed a plain shaft of granite, indicative alike of his simplicity and hardihood, upon which in inscribed 'Maj. General Stark.'

Hello Julie,Thank you for answering.Newman Augustus Herbert was my mothers father.Her name was Norma Emily Herbert and she was born in 1921 in Perth.I have my grandfather and grandmothers marriage certificate but the only photos I have of them together is their wedding photo.If you would like a copy of it I could send you one.Do you live in Western Australia because if you do there is a museum in Claremont called the Mrs Herbert school.It is where Ann Herbert taught the children of the pensioner guards.They also thought her name was Ann Blake.Who told you my grandfather's father was called Willis, and when did his mother die.I could never find a death for her to fit the story my mother was told.The only one I could find died in Perth in 1930.I have done a tree on the Herbert and Hunt family and will send you a copy if you would like it.

I think you will find John Thomas husband of Louisa Herbert was Nana's uncle and their children were her cousin's.Nana had a diary she wrote in all the time and in it she said Horace and his wife Nancy his daughter and Harriet's son Alex had been to see her in 1960.Yes I live in Brisbane.I have four brothers and Paul the eldest lives in Crows Nest Qld.So does David .Douglas lives in Adelaide and Graham lives in Coolum.Douglas was over in Perth late last year.He goes over every so often for a Navy reunion.It a shame I didnt know you then because he could have gone to see you.Paul turned 65 in January and we all went up to Crows Nest to surprise him.
I have attached copys of the letters for you to read.You should see if you can find Leah's children.

Hello Stephen,I have been looking at your tree again and noticed that it said Leah Herbert the Daughter of Jacob and Kathleen Herbert is still living.I have been trying to find any members of her family but have had no luck.I have a letter Leah wrote to my mother after my Grand mother died and also one her mother wrote to my nana when her mother died in England.I have been trying to find out what the connect was between my grand mother and John Thomas Metcalfe.I kind of think he could have been her uncle .Who is it that has given you all the Herbert imformation because I would love to get in touch with them.They could proable fill me in on a lot of stuff about my Grandfather Newman Augustus.My mother never said anything about his father.As far as she knew he didnt know who he was.Mum allway said his mother Maria died of same after he was born because they wouldnt let her marry his father.I would love to know the truth.If you can help me please get in touch.
