The iron-hull ship was 433.1 ft in length, 45.9 ft in breadth and had a gross weight of 4,817 tons. She had two funnels, four masts, a single screw and traveled at a speed of 16 knots. After her last voyage on this route on November 9, 1891, the Werra was transferred to the Genoa - New York run. Between December 1898 and the summer of 1899 she was chartered to Spain to repatriate Spanish troops from Cuba. On September 24, 1899 she began sailing from Bremen to Southampton, New York, Naples and Genoa. Following her final voyage between Genoa, Naples and New York, which began August 28,1901, she was scrapped.

 | Schönhals Family Research — Hessen, 1994 Fifty-eight pages of professional genealogical research into the SCHÖNHALS family of Hessen, commissioned in 1994 and carried out in Germany by Schröder & Fülling GbR, with Alexander Fülling, Kurt F. Laube and Karl-L. Günther. It contains the compiled pedigree — Johannes Schönhals of Köddingen, Georg Heinrich of Heidelbach, Ernst Ludwig, Johann Georg — together with the Stiederoth line, and the correspondence with the Evangelische Pfarrämter at Simmersbach, Grünberg, Feldatal and Kirchhain that produced it. This is the source from which the Schönhals branch of this tree was entered. Scanned in 2008; text recognition added in 2026, so the whole report is searchable. A narrative summary of the Wiser line into which this family married is at Family History of WISER/WYSER from Niedergösgen on craigwalsh.eu.

 | Shirley Rae Wilkinson Walsh Death Certificate Died at 26 Aug 1976 at 1261-B Center Street, Honolulu, Hawaii 96816 from anaplastic (oat cell) carcinoma of the lung with metastasis.
"Oat cell carcinoma is extremely aggressive and, in the majority of cases, by the time a diagnosis is made, the cancer has already metastasized to other parts of the body. Only about 30 percent of patients exhibit a limited form of the disease when they first seek medical attention. Oat cell carcinoma accounts for approximately 15 to 20 percent of all lung cancer diagnoses. Most oat cell tumors initially form in a central location in the lungs, often in the major bronchial tubes. This origin of formation is consistent with the fact that smoking is well established as the primary contributing factor in the onset of oat cell carcinoma. Approximately 90 percent of people diagnosed with the cancer are, or were formerly, smokers."
Shirley was a heavy smoker - unfiltered Lucky Strikes.
It's interesting that her death certificate showed she was "part Hawaiian," but this appears to have been corrected on 28 Sep 1976 on the basis of the funeral director's certificate.
She was cremated, and her ashes scattered by Shauna and John Walsh in Kamuela.

 | Shirley Wilkinson Studying on Mainland Attended The Leland Powers School, also known as the Leland Powers School of Communication, Leland Powers School of Radio, Theatre, and Television, Leland Powers Theatre School, the Leland Powers School of Expression, Leland Powers School of the Spoken Word, and originally called the Leland Powers School of Elocution, was originally located in the Fenway neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, and later in Brookline, Massachusetts.
Speaker and author Leland Powers founded the school in 1904. The school educated several notable speakers and authors of the early 20th century, including drama educator T. Earl Pardoe, actress Reta Shaw, and journalist Wendall Woodbury.
Leland T. Powers founded the school after teaching with the Redpath Lyceum Bureau, a Chautauqua circuit business. While working for the bureau, Powers was assigned as a reader during chautauquas, and as a coach to other readers. Powers also edited scripts for usage, focusing on readability and performance. During this time Powers was an associate of Carl Sandburg.
In 1904, Powers' school cost $200 for a semester's tuition. Joining his wife and more than a dozen staff members in teaching 140 students annually, Powers had a building constructed in 1914 at 31 Evans Way in the Fenway neighborhood next door to the Girls' Latin School.
The School was credited with being on the leading edge of technology when in 1944 it started broadcasting a show called "The Great American Home" on local station WIXG. The Leland Powers school has some early tie in with Christian Scientists and Ernest Holmes in particular.
The school closed in 1979.
