Da die geringen Einkünfte des Scheibelshofes nicht ausreichte, eine kinderreiche Familie zu ernähren, ließ sich Curd Schönhals zur zur Belehnung überreden. Er verkaufte seine Güter für 200 Gulden an seine Geschwister und zahlte die Schulden von 150 Gulden.

Er musste sich sehr verschulden, da er noch im Wettbewerb mit zwei anderen Müllern stand, Curt Diemer zu Billertshausen und David Kalb zu Angenrod.Durch zahlreiche Eingaben und Prozesse erreichte er, dass Landgraf Ernst Ludwig die Vergünstigung der Angenröder Müller in Bezug auf Leusel aufhob. Trotzdem folgten noch viele Prozesse, die den Schuldenberg vergrößerten. Dann fand sich 1701 endlich eine für alle annehmbare Lösung.

Captain, Company K, 16th Reg, CT Volunteers - Newton formed this Companyand the company was officially mustered into service on August 24, 1861.Five days later the company left for Washington, DC. Arrived DC August31st, the regiment bivouacked near the capitol building and the nextmorning marched to Ft. Ward, VA. A week after leaving home the regimentjoined McClellan's army, Harland's Brigade. The first battle for Newtonwas Sharpsburg, Antietam, where he lost his life. Taken from thearticle " He was shot by a canon ball while while leading his men forwardinto the fatal cornfield, which proved a perfect ambush for our troops;and where the rebels came near turning the day's defeat into a victory.They had masked heavy columns of infantry behine a hugh stone wall, wherethey lay in absolute safety, awaiting the approach of the Union line. Alight battery back of them was engaged pouring into us a constantdischarge of shot and shell. Col. Frank Beach of Hartford receivedinstructions to move on the rebel guns. With characteristic promptnesshe gave the order "forward" and led the advance. It was during theexecution of this movement that Captain Manross received his deathwound. He only survived long enough to cheer on his men, who felt whenhe fell that their best friend was stricken down.

A lifelong Bristol resident, she graduated from Bristol High School, Mount Holyoke College, and she received her teaching degree from the Teacher's College of Connecticut (now CCSU). She taught third grade in Bristol for 32 years at West Woods and Mountain View Schools. She was a member and two-time past regent of the Katherine Gaylord Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Bristol. Charlotte is survived by two daughters and sons in law, the Rev. Marcia C. Eveland and Chacy Eveland of Burlington, and Ann. L. and Robert Bandera of Wickenburg, AZ; two grandchildren, Chase Ellis of Ballarat, Australia, and Jessica Schoumaker and her husband, Curtis Schoumaker, of Prescott Valley, AZ; a great grandson, Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother during World War II, Edward Manross. Funeral services will be held on Monday (November 14 2011) at 10 AM at St. John's Episcopal Church, 851 Stafford Ave., Bristol. Burial will follow in West Cemetery, Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, on Sunday (November 13, 2011) between 4 and 7 PM. Edith [Ida Alice Wyser Boyd - known as Aunt Edie] use to reminisce about their days in Australia. And how they were actresses I believe dancing in Australia. "Uncle Tom [Joseph Thompson Boyd] put her on a ship to Australia and she died in route. They brought her remains back to Hawaii. [Death certificate shows she was cremated in Australia, but ashes could have been returned to Hawaii.] "We lived in a cottage on their estate for about six months. Their house was a mansion. They had 200 dogs - Pekingese - they were all over the house. Aunt Edith had very long hair and she used to let me comb it. "Aunt Ida was very wealthy she had the money before she married Tom Boyd. Tom inherited her money but died shortly after her death. He left everything to the Masonic Order. He was not a nice man, he hated the sisters and didn't want any of the family around. He made the sisters feel very unwelcome and under any circumstance they were not allowed to stay. "Aunt Ida had a room full of beautiful dolls. Uncle Tom would not let me touch the dolls. One day Aunt Edith said go upstairs to the attic and I could chose a doll to have but not to let Uncle Tom know and take it home. • Biography: 26 Jul 2004; From an interview with Gilbert's daughter Loretta Mary O'Berg on 26 Jul 2004: Gilbert was really unusual, extremely intelligent but not very practical. Grandma Mary's sister Fay was in New York at the same time as Gilbert when he went to Columbia University in New York. He was interested in poetry and literature. He was so brilliant that the professor turned the class over to Gilbert to teach it, and he did. And of course he was a fine musician. He played with the San Francisco Symphony during the depression. He played the clarinet and then the saxophone. Also during the depression he worked the ships to the Orient: he played in the ships orchestra. He brought back interesting cravings from Hong Kong and Japan. He was quite the ladies' man, I guess you might even say boarding on a gigolo. He would always get some woman to take care of him. When he came back I guess he met my mother at that time. His Uncle Tom Boyd in Honolulu offered him a job in his mortuary. The stipulation was he would have to start from the very beginning from embalming. Gilbert was a pretty far out person but that was more than he could take, he lasted six months. It was too much, he couldn't handle it. Uncle Tom was awful, very sadistic, not a nice person. Gilbert gave up a fortune, he couldn't handle that. Then he played at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in the evenings. During the day he was also involved in a car dealership. He sold two cars to Mickey Rooney in one week. Mickey demolished two cars in one week, he had a body guard he was so wild. Gilbert would also smoke marijuana with all the stars that came over to the Islands: Errol Flynn, Cesar Romero. My mother should have been married to a farmer. She had all these beautiful evening gowns because she would go in the evenings and sit in the audience while he was playing at the Royal Hawaiian: in fact sometimes she would take me. In those days you could do that. It was in the ballroom at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, which was very beautiful, it was right on the beach. I would just curl up on the sand outside and sleep if I got tired. But most the time I enjoyed seeing all the ladies in their beautiful dresses, it was nice. This was not a happy marriage: my mother preferred to be in jeans and digging in the ground and making a home. Gilbert was not interested, he was interested in beautiful clothes and jewelry. In those days men wore a lot of jewelry, cuff links, chains and fancy watches. We went over in 1937 and came home in 1941. We caught one of the last ships out of Honolulu coming back to the mainland. Luckily, it took the roof off my school, It was a good thing we got out of there in time. Gilbert wasn't supposed to sail with us, he was supposed to go back [to work]. Detroit told him they were going to get one more shipment of cars and then the shipments would be cut off. We all knew that we were going to be attacked, but we didn't know when. Gilbert got so drunk on sailing day and passed out he ended up sailing home with us to San Francisco. We moved to Oakland with my grandmother Ready. Gilbert was classified 4F and he couldn't be drafted. Gilbert got a job in Richmond at Kaiser ship yards for awhile. Here he was: this sensitive poet doing meanly work. If you were classed 4F you had to do defense work. So then we moved south to Seal Beach. Both my parents got jobs at the airplane factory. My mother didn't have any math background but she ended up being a tool and die designer. They manufactured war planes. Gilbert got a job as a janitor and would come around and sweep up the piling at her desk, this was war. Gilbert played with Arty Shaw for awhile: his real love was music, Classical and Jazz, during this time period. After the war we came back to Oakland and we lived in grandma Mary's house on 57th Street, in East Oakland, we fixed it up. Gilbert really started drinking at this time. He was playing at night but he wasn't getting good jobs. My mother was working at Lurence's -- it used to be Safeways -- making ice cream. Things were really bad for the marriage. On the weekends, of course my mother worked all week and so it was only on the weekends for cleaning house and we had a farm in the backyard on 57th Street. Chickens, rabbits and ducks because you couldn't buy meat during this time, it was rare that you could get meat. A lot of people were raising animals in their backyards then. Gilbert would have nothing to do with them mother would have to kill, clean and cook them. There was always work on the weekends and Gilbert expected to be served a nice breakfast. Gilbert would say come on Loretta, my sister usually didn't join us because she was younger and wasn't interested in the beach. He invited mother too but she would say "If I go who is going to do all this work, mow the lawn, do the wash, clean the house?" She was left behind and I always felt guilty. We would always go to Lake Temascal to swim. Gilbert was fun, my mother wasn't. She always played the martyr. They ended up getting divorced. The Burns family wasn't happy about that. He was a spoiled brat. I think it was because he was the only son. He was smart: he knew how to work everybody. He had a such a strange sense of humor. When we first moved to Hawaii, there was a terrible depression in Hawaii. Jobs were very rare so what did he do? One day he put an ad in the paper: "Need 100 workers, please apply at (he gave an address)." 1,000 people came looking for a job and he stood there laughing. Yes, both my parents were Communists. They both joined the Communist Party. They were really into socialism. They were into unions, shared wealth, good things for humanity. I remember handing out the Daily Worker -- which was a Communist newspaper -- at the Alameda shipyard during WWII with my mother and father. My sister stayed with me for awhile, after my divorce. One day we decided to look him up and we found his number. I stayed in touch with Fay and Grandma. Grandma came to my home she could see that we were doing very well financially, so she didn't leave me any money but left Collette about $1,500.

He first came to the University of Oregon to study journalism but switched to an art major, and later served on the faculty in the Art Department from 1941-1968. In his first year teaching at the U of O, Wilkinson started one of the earliest Basic Design programs in the United States, and then became head of the Art Department in 1962. He also served as the head of the Art Department at Louisiana State University from 1968 until his death in 1974. Dave Foster, who was one of his earliest students and later his collegue, named the Wilkinson House, located at the Eugene Millrace, after the innovative painter and thinker Jack Wilkinson to honor his legend.

• Biography: 1990; Jack Wilkinson was born in Berkeley, California in 1913, and raised in Hawaii, the son of a construction company owner. He received his undergraduate education at the University of Oregon from 1932 to 1935, initially pursuing a degree in jounalism but then entering the art program in order to learn how to illustrate an article he had written for the school newspaper. He then moved back to San Francisco to further his studies in art at the California School of Fine Arts from 1935 to 1937, studying principally with Maurice Sterne, eventually becoming an assistant and apprentice of Sterne along with fellow classmates Nell Sinton and Charles Voorhies. In 1937 he was awarded the J.D. Phelan Travelling Scholarship, which would allow him to travel extensively in Europe and view works in major art institutions overseas. At the same time, however, his mentor Maurice Sterne had asked him to be an assistant in his studio for a mural project for the Department of Justice. Consequently he was granted a postponement of travel in order to work with Sterne as well as improve his French prior to departure. Travelling to Chicago, New York, and then on the Europe in 1938, Wilkinson established a studio in Paris, which would become his base of operation when he subsequently journeyed to Italy, Germany, Holland and England. While in Paris, a romance blossomed between Wilkinson and fellow painter Una McCann, who also had a studio in Paris. With Europe on the verge of war, the two painters would return to San Francisco in late 1939. Wilkinson and McCann would marry the following year in California. Perhaps most notable of Wilkinson?s time in Paris was his conversion to the theories and approach to painting of Cezanne and to a lesser extent, Pissarro. Upon his return to San Francisco, Wilkinson entered and won a Treasury department competition for a Post Office mural to be installed in Burns, Oregon. His wife assisted him in completing the mural in the summer of 1941. Upon arrival in Burns to install the finished mural, they discovered that the dimensions they had been given were inaccurate, resulting in considerable on site rework. The mural currently hangs in the main court room in the Harney County Courthouse in Burns. Wilkinson and his wife then drove from Burns to Eugene, Oregon to visit friends. Upon their arrival in Eugene, they found that Lance Wood Hart, an assistant art professor at the university, had died [26 May 1941], and so they stayed in Eugene for the funeral. Wilkinson was then asked if he would be willing to cover Hart's classes for the term. This would be the start of Wilkinson's 37 year tenure with the school. His classes became legendary among his students. He established one of the earliest basic design classes in the United States and his intergration of philosophy, psychology, and mathematics into his classes offered his students an intriguing, broad and intellectual approach to art. While Wilkinson is perhaps best known as a teacher, he was quite talented as a painter, remaining quite active with his own art throughout his life. His earlier canvasses show an affinity for the human figure. Through the 1930s and 1940s, his work was expressionistic and compatible with predominant art concerns of the time. Toward the late 1940s onward, a more highly stylized and abstracted approach appeared, with canvasses executed with spontaneous, energetic and broad brushwork. Later works reveal an increasing interest in landscape painting. Throughout his career, he remained fascinated with mural painting as a venue to explore more complex and complicated themes. He would often paint over previous works many times as the act of painting seemed to hold a primacy above the final result, as well as a place to try out evolving concepts, no matter how successful or unsuccessful. For Wilkinson, painting above all seemed to be a journey of investigation and confirmation of the ideas that he was constantly visualizing and revising. Over the years, he continued to exhibit his work internationally as well as regionally. In 1962, Wilkinson became chair of the art department at University of Oregon. For a variety of reasons, many beyond his control, Wilkinson?s additional duties as the prime administrator for the department proved to be an increasingly untenable burden for him as the 1960s progressed culminating in his resignation from his position in Eugene and subsequent move to Louisianna State University to head up the art department there in 1968. While at LSU, he developed and artist-in-residence program and started an MFA program. Additionally, his teaching had an even more substantial impact upon art students from the more conservative South. He remained in his position at LSU until his death in 1974. A comprehensive retrospective of Wilkinson?s work was exhibited at the University of Oregon in 1990.
