    [The IGI would suggest that ceremony took place on 4th March 1738 at Newbiggin - however the IGI seems to suggest that there is a mention the same date in the Hawkshead parish register, perhaps a calling of Banns?]

In life an Example of Honesty, Sincerity, Temperance and Justice: Much esteem'd for his great Abilities and happy Success in Surgery; He lived by all respected. And died lamented by many October 11th 1705 Aged 77 years. To perpetuate his Virtues to Postery this Remembrance is placed by his sons-in-law, Jno. Bushby of Great Strickland and Jno. Wilkinson of Brinns. Also Mary, Wife of William Brown who died Febr. 4th 1766 aged 77 years."
    • Death Reference: 11 Oct 1765; "May I suggest that the transcription of the brass at the alter tomb in St Michael's, Lowther which has William Brown as having died 11th October 1705 is incorrect and should read 1765, this becomes obvious when you realise that his wife died in 1766 aged 77 and his father Richard was born in 1650 and died in 1725." -- e-mail from Annette Hughes dated 5 Feb 14.
