- Biography: 29 Apr 2009; From a letter dated 29 Apr 2009 from Barbara Mae [Morris] Anderson:
"I really don't know much about my fther as he never talked about himself. Almost everything I do know came from my mother.
"After his father died [1901] the family thought that it was better for him to be raised by Max and Rachel King than by a single lady, a decision my dad resented all of his life. This is why he severed relations with most of the family. He went to the 5th grade at Los Alamos Schol then worked in the general store where he said he was treated as a slave rather than as a family member.
"As a teenager he worked as a cowboy on one of the large ranches in that area, spent time as a telegrapher for the railroad out of Santa Maria, California, then went to Los Angeles where he was a driver for some wealthy lady who owned a candy company. After that I know very little except that on returning to San Francisco he went to work with his uncle Milt at Little Auto Company on Van Ness Avenue and was there until the depression wiped out the company. He then went into partnership with Gus Griese to run Auto Spring and Wheel Service, 701 Octavia Street. He eventually bought out Gus and was still the owner and operator when he died and my brother took over.
"During World War II he was a member of the Coast Guard Auxillary, serviced local lighthouses and learned to shoot hand guns, life-long hobby after that. He also played the drums, loved photography, old cars, and traveling.
"My brother was quite ill as a child and took much of mother's time so I was practically raised by my dad and have wonderful memories of all the things we did especially on weekends. He waa a kind and loving man that would do anything for someone who needed help."
Milton married Marie Frances Voss about 1921 in San Francisco, California. Marie (daughter of Franciscus Voss and Katherina Josephine Shorn) was born about 1900 in California. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
