 | Jack Wilkinson's Mural as it hangs today (August 2008), a court room of the Circuit Court of Harney County, Burns, Oregon Photograph courtesy of Pauline Braymen. She wrote on 17 Aug 08, "I am so excited that the history of the mural is being protected. I was editor of the Burns Times-Herald for about 18 years and we did a big story with photos when the mural was moved from the post office (yes, new post office, nice and modern, but not nearly so magnificent as the old three-story one that had marble floors, brass postal boxes, high ceilings, winding staircase, and the only elevator in Burns). I can't remember the year. I'll just have to go through the archives until I find it. I'll find out when the new post office was completed and that will narrow it down. The process of cleaning the mural and removing it from the wall was very interesting and was well done by the professionals hired to do it."

 | James Wilkinson and His Patented Can Transfer Valve James joined the Hawaiian Pineapple Co., Ltd. in 1929, and became superintendent of the syruping and double-steaming department in 1936. He invented a can transfer valve, and the patent (2,220,137) was filed on 18 May 1937 and assigned to American Can Company.
According to the patent itself, "The present invention relates to a acan treating machine having a rotatable transfer valve with can and cover carrying pockets such as utilized in a can closing or sealing machine and has particular refrence to fevices located in the valve pockets for holding a cover superimposed upon a can to prevent spilling of the can contents while the can is in the valve. An object of the invention is the provision of a can closing machine or the like having a rotatable transfer valve formed with can pockets, wherein covers carried in the valve pockets in superimposed relation relatives to the cans therein, are positively forced into tight engagement with the cans by yieldable presser fingers also located within the can pockets thus preventing spilling of the can contents during rotation of the valve and transfer of the cans."

 | Jesse Crumpler This photograph was kindly provided by Patrick Dommett who advised Jesse Crumpler "was quite a progressive farmer, installing the first milking parlour well before the 1939-45 War. He was quite influential in the flax industry, making frequent journeys to Germany and Yugoslavia. When we had our first farm in 1952 between Yeovil and Crewkerne, we grew flax which we hauled to a flax processing factory at Lopen, nearby."
