The Mickelsen Family - Honolulu - 1936
According to Carolyn Wilkinson, "We were on our way to the Philippines --- the Eisenhower family was on board our ship --- and had a stopover in Hawaii for a day. We went to the top of the Pali and I even remember a trip on a glass bottom boat in Kaneohe Bay! We were sent home to the States in 1938 because of rumblings of war with Japan. My father, then a major in the Signal Corps, was sent to Chicago to work with Automatic Electric to buy equipment for the Army."

Wilkie's Flower Shop Is Attractive
Wilkie's Flower Shop Is Attractive
New flower shop opens in the Hale-Hawaii Building. This was the arcade in front of the old Outrigger Canoe Club on Kalakaua Avenue, now the site of the Outrigger Hotel. In a later (December 1944) advertisement it appears that Wilkie's Florist was then known as Outrigger Florist.
