| Revolutionary War Rolls - Amount due to the men of Dearborn's Company - John Ray - Page 217 "The above is a True Roll of the Company that March'd from Cambridge [Massachusetts] to Quebec with me in the year 1775. Henry Dearborn, Capt."
According to Wikipedia: "In September 1775, Benedict Arnold led a force of 1,100 Continental Army troops on an expedition through the wilderness of what is now Maine that was part of a two-pronged invasion of the British Province of Quebec. The other expedition, led by Richard Montgomery, invaded Quebec from Lake Champlain.
"Arnold's expedition was a success in that he was able to bring a body of troops to the gates of Quebec City. However, the expedition was beset by troubles as soon as it left the last significant outposts of civilization in Maine. There were numerous difficult portages as the troops moved up the Kennebec River, and the boats they were using frequently leaked, spoiling gunpowder and food supplies. The height of land between the Kennebec and the Chaudière River was a swampy tangle of lakes and streams, where the traversal was complicated by bad weather; one quarter of the troops turned back at this point. The descent down the Chaudière resulted in the destruction of more boats and supplies as the inexperienced troops were unable to control the boats in its fast-moving waters.
"By the time Arnold reached the outskirts of civilization along the Saint Lawrence River in November, his force was reduced to 600 starving men. They had traveled over almost 400 miles through untracked wilderness. This did not prevent Arnold's troops, with assistance from the local Canadiens, from crossing the Saint Lawrence on November 13 and 14, and attempting to put Quebec City under siege. Failing in that effort, Arnold withdrew to Point-aux-Trembles until Montgomery arrived to lead an attack on the city."

| Shirley Rae Wilkinson Walsh Death Certificate Died at 26 Aug 1976 at 1261-B Center Street, Honolulu, Hawaii 96816 from anaplastic (oat cell) carcinoma of the lung with metastasis.
"Oat cell carcinoma is extremely aggressive and, in the majority of cases, by the time a diagnosis is made, the cancer has already metastasized to other parts of the body. Only about 30 percent of patients exhibit a limited form of the disease when they first seek medical attention. Oat cell carcinoma accounts for approximately 15 to 20 percent of all lung cancer diagnoses. Most oat cell tumors initially form in a central location in the lungs, often in the major bronchial tubes. This origin of formation is consistent with the fact that smoking is well established as the primary contributing factor in the onset of oat cell carcinoma. Approximately 90 percent of people diagnosed with the cancer are, or were formerly, smokers."
Shirley was a heavy smoker - unfiltered Lucky Strikes.
It's interesting that her death certificate showed she was "part Hawaiian," but this appears to have been corrected on 28 Sep 1976 on the basis of the funeral director's certificate.
She was cremated, and her ashes scattered by Shauna and John Walsh in Kamuela.

| Shirley Wilkinson Studying on Mainland Attended The Leland Powers School, also known as the Leland Powers School of Communication, Leland Powers School of Radio, Theatre, and Television, Leland Powers Theatre School, the Leland Powers School of Expression, Leland Powers School of the Spoken Word, and originally called the Leland Powers School of Elocution, was originally located in the Fenway neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, and later in Brookline, Massachusetts.
Speaker and author Leland Powers founded the school in 1904. The school educated several notable speakers and authors of the early 20th century, including drama educator T. Earl Pardoe, actress Reta Shaw, and journalist Wendall Woodbury.
Leland T. Powers founded the school after teaching with the Redpath Lyceum Bureau, a Chautauqua circuit business. While working for the bureau, Powers was assigned as a reader during chautauquas, and as a coach to other readers. Powers also edited scripts for usage, focusing on readability and performance. During this time Powers was an associate of Carl Sandburg.
In 1904, Powers' school cost $200 for a semester's tuition. Joining his wife and more than a dozen staff members in teaching 140 students annually, Powers had a building constructed in 1914 at 31 Evans Way in the Fenway neighborhood next door to the Girls' Latin School.
The School was credited with being on the leading edge of technology when in 1944 it started broadcasting a show called "The Great American Home" on local station WIXG. The Leland Powers school has some early tie in with Christian Scientists and Ernest Holmes in particular.
The school closed in 1979.
